The best bets this weekend are not simply the likeliest results: they are selections whose odds are longer than their real chance deserves, such as a side priced at 4.50 (an implied 22%) that a model rates nearer 30%. Specific selections go stale within hours; the method behind them stays useful every weekend, in every league. This page explains how TACTIX looks for those selections and where its live picks are published.

Looking for this weekend’s actual picks?

TACTIX publishes its rated picks every day on the predictions board, and the Bet of the Day and accumulators on the accumulators page. Free accounts can open predictions up to a daily limit; Pro removes the limit and adds Today’s Value, which shows each pick’s best available price, the model’s edge over it and the fair price with the bookmaker’s margin removed. What Do We Mean by “Best Bets”?

The phrase gets misused. “Best bets” doesn’t mean the matches we’re most confident about — a 4–1 favourite at 1.30 might be highly likely, but the price is too short to make it a good bet. “Best bets” means selections where the assessed probability is meaningfully higher than the implied probability of the available odds. Value, not just confidence.

That distinction matters because of how bookmakers price markets. A heavy favourite is heavy because the bookmaker priced it that way, and the market generally agrees. Mispriced selections, where they exist, tend to sit in the corners: for example an underdog at 4.50 (implied 22%) that a model rates at 30%, or over 2.5 goals at 1.95 (implied 51%) in a match with an expected total of 2.9 goals, which a Poisson model puts at about 55%. The gaps are small, and each is an estimate, not a promise.

How Does TACTIX Choose the Best Bets This Weekend?

The process has four stages:

1. Start from fixtures the model can price

Data depth varies by competition. Where a team has fewer than three recorded matches, the model gives it a neutral rating rather than inventing a strength, and only predictions that clear the Bronze confidence floor are published as rated picks. Below that floor the model shows analysis, not a pick.

2. Run the model

Each fixture goes through the TACTIX prediction model. It scores each team’s strength from recent form, expected goals (xG), shots on target and a few smaller inputs, turns the two scores into expected goals for the match, and builds a Poisson goal matrix with a Dixon–Coles correction for low scores. From that grid come the match result, both teams to score, over/under lines, handicaps and correct score; corners, cards, shots and player markets come from companion count models. Every market is calibrated against settled results, and the headline home / draw / away call comes from a dedicated three-way model that adds Elo ratings. The full method is on the AI prediction models page.

3. Compare to market odds

We pull live odds from the bookmakers we track and convert them to implied probability. A selection becomes a candidate “best bet” only when the price on offer is longer than the probability says it should be. Today’s Value shows both sides of that comparison: the model’s edge, and the fair price with the bookmaker’s margin (the overround) taken out.

4. Rank and surface

Candidates are ranked by the size of that gap. Each is shown with the bookmaker offering the best price for the selection, because taking the longest available odds always returns more for the same outcome than taking the first price you see.

What Does Each Pick Show?

Depending on where you see it, a TACTIX pick includes:

  • The fixture. Home team, away team, league and kick-off time.
  • The selection. Match result, over/under, both teams to score, handicap or another market.
  • Our probability. The model’s calibrated chance of the outcome.
  • Confidence tier. Gold, Silver or Bronze, set by that probability, with each tier’s settled record published beside it.
  • Best available odds and the edge. On Today’s Value: the highest price we found, the fair price with the margin removed, the gap between them, and a Kelly stake guide.
  • A written verdict. Why the pick was made, the numbers behind it and the risk.

What Should You Remember Every Weekend?

  • Value bets lose. Often. A 30%-likely selection wins 30% of the time. Even a strong portfolio of value bets has losing weekends. Variance is the price of admission.
  • Don’t increase stake to chase a loss. The bankroll discipline that works on a winning weekend is the same discipline that gets you through a losing one. Stake the same percentage every bet.
  • Be careful with accumulators. Each leg of an accumulator multiplies in the bookmaker’s margin. A 4-fold acca with 4% margin per leg has 17% combined margin. Singles carry the least margin.
  • Take the best available price. If a selection is at 2.10 with one book and 2.20 with another, take 2.20. Over a season of betting, line shopping is the simplest improvement you can make.
  • Track results. Log every bet with the date, fixture, selection, your reasoning, the price you took, and the closing price. The data tells you whether you’re getting better; instinct doesn’t.

Which Leagues Does TACTIX Cover?

TACTIX prices fixtures across the Big Five European leagues, the EFL Championship and the European club competitions, among others, wherever it has enough match data to rate the teams.

You can dive deeper into specific leagues using our dedicated guides:

Free to Start

The Starter plan is free and gives you live scores, fixtures, league tables and form guides, plus model predictions up to a daily limit. Pro removes the limit and adds the full prediction board, Today’s Value with its Kelly stake guide, Odds Movers and the rest of the Pro tools. Current prices and the trial are on the pricing page.

We publish a measured track record — settled hit-rates by market and confidence tier, with sample sizes and a calibration curve — on the model scoreboard, the How accurate is TACTIX? page and at how accurate is TACTIX, and we lead with calibration rather than a single headline accuracy number. It is the more cautious way to report a record, and the honest one.
